The scientists asked the leaders of the industrialised eight and developing five countries to take five specific steps at their summit this week:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"square\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt;\">Recognise that present <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/Earth\/Tackle-climate-change-now\/articleshow\/4748744.cms\" target=\"undefined\"><span class=\"klink\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt;  height:16.5pt'> <v:imagedata src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/DOCUME~1\/neha\/LOCALS~1\/Temp\/msoclip1\/01\/clip_image001.gif\" mce_src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/DOCUME~1\/neha\/LOCALS~1\/Temp\/msoclip1\/01\/clip_image001.gif\"   o:href=\"http:\/\/kona.kontera.com\/javascript\/lib\/imgs\/grey_loader.gif\" \/> <\/v:shape><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/DOCUME~1\/neha\/LOCALS~1\/Temp\/msoclip1\/01\/clip_image001.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"22\" height=\"22\" \/><!--[endif]--><\/span><\/a><\/span><span> <\/span>of 0.8 degree      Celsius above pre-industrial levels is already having a significant      impact, and that warming exceeding 2 degrees Celsius predicted for later      this century would create great risks and have irreversible consequences.<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt;\">Commit to peak global greenhouse gas emissions by no      later than 2020 and reduce these by at least 50 percent relative to 1990      levels by 2050.<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt;\">For developed countries, commit to emissions      reductions of at least 80 percent relative to 1990 by 2050 with      appropriate intermediate targets set in time for Copenhagen (the next      climate summit scheduled this December).<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt;\">For developing countries, commit by Copenhagen summit      to significant gains in <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/Earth\/Tackle-climate-change-now\/articleshow\/4748744.cms\" target=\"undefined\"><span class=\"klink\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #3366ff;\">energy efficiency<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>,      reductions in carbon intensity, and cuts in non-carbon dioxide greenhouse      gas emissions over the next two decades;
